Hrmm. It would seem in my desire to avoid working on my latest short story, I have found many ways to distract myself. Last week I talked about Monkey Shoes. I said I was going to experiment with “bare foot running” and I would let you know how it goes.
Heh. Well. I ran for five minutes on my toes to try it out. As a result, the back of my knee became painful and stiff. I walked around in a knee brace all day Friday, actually.
Chalk that one up as a failure. These knees don’t seem cut out for running anymore. That’s okay. There are plenty other ways to exercise.
There are also plenty of other ways to distract myself.
Have you heard of chia seeds?
Most likely you have. (Think “cha cha cha chia”.) Did you know people EAT chia seeds? I don’t know how I came across this, but I did. It seems chia pudding is all the rage. (My how things have changed since I tried to be a vegan, raw foodie.)
Yesterday I spent part of my afternoon looking at images of chia pudding. I’ll share my favorite:
hee hee hee.
In fairness, not all chia pudding looks like dog feces. Here’s another example:
Yesterday evening I went to GNC and bought some chia seeds, of course. I soaked them overnight with blueberries, and I must say, chia pudding does not taste nearly as bad as it looks. It doesn’t taste much at all really, which means it doesn’t taste good either. However, I am fascinated by the properties of this little seed. The texture is kind of fun…like little balls of tapioca with chewy centers.
As scary as it looks, I might enjoy chia pudding if it was flavored just right. I’ll be experimenting with some recipes in the near future. I’ll let you know how that goes. (If it goes poorly, I’m out fifteen bucks for nothing.)
(Yes, a pound was really that expensive. And I bought it anyway.
Mommy: And why did you do that Isaac?
Isaac: Because I did.)
Perhaps next week I’ll tell you about my experience with the Vega Shake and Go Smoothie. We can have an in depth discussion about the carbon footprint of vegetable-based proteins versus animal based-proteins. It could be enlightening.
How about you? Have you ever munched on chia seeds?

wow, no I’ve never heard of chia seeds. Looks interesting.
Thanks for the update on the monkey shoes…I won’t be using those any time soon.

I haven’t tried chia seeds yet. If they’re too expensive, I probably won’t. I buy big bags of flax meal at Costco and throw it in my own vegan shakes (though I’m not vegan by any stretch of the imagination. I just don’t like cooking.) And the GNC really annoys me! Ugh, I just went there yesterday to buy more cod liver oil and vit D. The employees are weird and slightly rude–always!
I think I could have gotten a pound for half the price, if I had shopped around. I’m not a big GNC fan either, that’s one reason. Too expensive. They weren’t rude when I went, but the hovered, which makes me a bit uncomfortable.
